About this game

Windrose is a PvE survival adventure set in an alternate Age of Piracy where you can fight on land and sea, solo or with friends. Build, craft, and explore procedurally generated biomes filled with hidden mysteries, hand‑crafted dungeons, and quests. Recruit a crew, command a ship—ketch, brig, or frigate—through brutal naval combat that blends cannon fire and boarding actions, with seamless transitions between ship and shore. Defeat challenging bosses, trade with factions, and uncover supernatural forces as you pursue revenge against Blackbeard and a growing conflict among empires and pirate clans. Customize your ship, build settlements, recruit NPCs, and use a wide arsenal of melee weapons and firearms, parrying, dodging, and chaining strikes while buffing yourself with food and potions. Play solo offline or in co‑op with up to four players on self‑hosted or dedicated servers; procedural generation ensures each journey feels unique, and progress carries over between worlds.

Disable Steam Cloud in the game’s Steam Properties and remove the corrupted character folder from SaveProfiles so the game no longer boots into the glitched purple-quit menu tied to that save.

Backup the character save file you want to keep, delete other save files, restart your computer, load the game, exit, then re-enable cloud saves.

  • Log into Steam, right-click Windrose, select Properties.
  • Disable Steam Cloud in the General tab.
  • Navigate to C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\.
  • Backup the SaveProfiles folder, then delete or rename it.
  • Launch the game to reach the main menu.
  • Exit, re-enable Steam Cloud, and launch again to choose local or cloud save.

Turn off overlay applications before launching, as they frequently conflict with the game's graphics process and trigger crashes.

Lower in-game graphics settings like shadows, texture quality, and resolution scale to reduce GPU load and prevent crashes caused by VRAM pressure.

Install the latest GPU drivers from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel, as outdated drivers are the leading cause of crashes and black screens in PC games.
